This collection primarily documents abolitionist activism. Materials include correspondence; addresses; essays; sermons; deeds from the sales of female slaves; photographs of emancipated slaves; and numerous articles on the escaped slave William Wells Brown. A substantial portion of the collection documents abolitionist John Brown and his descendents. Scope and Contents
From the Series:
This series is divided into three subseries: Family letters, Letters to the Garrisons, and Third party correspondence. Letters by and to the Wrights and Stephensons are located in SERIES X and XI respectively. Some letters in this series, especially those from Generation 1 have been photocopied for preservation purposes.
