Scope and Contents

Reports and correspondence relating to the union of the American Committee and the International board and the formation of the YWCA of the U.S.A. Included are an early proposed constitution, Joint Committee leaflets, the 1907 Act of Incorporation and a 1906 agreement. Also included is a 1951 letter from Anson Phelps Stokes regarding a donation of correspondence from Olivia Phelps Stokes concerning the origins of the YWCA of the U.S.A. Digitized version includes renewals originally located on reel 252 comprised of the documents "A Brief Parallel History of the International YWCA's."

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
