Scope and Contents

The Committee on Foreign Born Women of the War Work Council of the National Board of the YWCA of the U.S.A. is responsible for coordinating programming and relief work with foreign-born women in the United States. These activities and programs include translation services, advisory and training services to local associations working with foreign communities, the development of the Polish Grey Samaritans program for relief work in Poland, assisting men and women in securing information concerning their countries of origin and providing communications concerning matters affecting people of foreign background in the United States. The Committee on Foreign Born Women cooperates with many parts of the YWCA of the U.S.A. working especially closely with its international institutes and hostess houses. Minutes of committee meetings include project updates, budget reviews and staff needs. Secretaries' reports include descriptions of their work for the reporting period and assessments of the needs of the men and women they are working with. Also included is a history of the War Work Council's work with foreign-born women.
