Business, professional, and industrial women, 1946-1951
Scope and Contents
Summer and weekend conference materials for work with industrial and professional employed women. Combined business and industrial work conferences provide a chance for girls to meet other employed girls from their region, share ideas, engage in discussions, and learn about topics of emphasis. In addition, conferences offer outdoor and indoor recreation, worship and devotions, as well as songs and dramatics. Materials summarize discussions and lectures, assess conference facilities, assess conference effectiveness, provide recommendations for future conferences, and comment on leadership. Conference assessments often contain a section on the interracial aspects of the conference including the attitude of the girls and accommodations. In the post World War II era conferences continue to focus on international relationships and a girl's place in the world. Summaries of work in other countries may be given or foreign secretaries may be invited to speak. Another interest of employed women during this time is job security as the threat of losing one's job to a man was present.
