Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the international aspects, news and reports, worship services and program of the Fifteenth National Convention of the Young Women's Christian Associations of the United States of America. As part of the YWCA of the U.S.A.'s strong ties to work in China and in response to the tensions between China and Japan, Madam Chiang Kai-Shek gives an address to the convention via radio. In addition there is a formal note of appreciation and greetings from the YWCA in China. Newsletters from the Convention Committee update associations and delegates on preparations for the convention and a report from committee evaluates administration of the convention. Miscellaneous materials include extensive coverage of the convention from the "Womans Press."

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
