Conventions, eighteenth, 1947-1949
Scope and Contents
Call to convention and workbooks for the Eighteenth National Convention of the Young Women's Christian Associations of the United States of America. In the years following the war, the YWCA of the U.S.A. is facing disillusionment with the resulting international relations and political climate. International cooperation and work in foreign countries is discussed throughout the materials. To prepare delegates for the convention workbooks are sent ahead of time in addition to the National Board report detailing work and progress made on program emphases since the 1946 convention. The workbook also looks ahead to the next three years and the new role of women in the post war years. Convention business is summarized in the workbook and includes the current social and political issues that will be brought to convention for vote. Halfway through the convention cycle in 1947 a separate Workbook for use in National YWCA Day updates local associations on national business and suggests ways in which association may prepare and participate in YWCA Day. Responses and input from local associations on National YWCA Day are used in preparation for the next convention.
