Scope and Contents

Official proceedings and actions of the Nineteenth National Convention of the Young Women's Christian Associations of the United States of America. Proceedings follow conventions sessions from opening remarks through final adjournment with speeches and group discussions documented in other reports represented in later microdexes. Every three years delegates representing local associations convene to unite under a common aim, adopt resolutions, elect leaders, and discuss matter of national importance continuing to have an international focus in the post war political climate. Democracy and the meaning of citizenship is discussed throughout. In addition, convention sessions include presentations from special groups such as public affairs, employed women, students, agricultural groups, Y-Teen, YW-Wives, and more.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
