Japan, circa 1916-1940
Scope and Contents
Correspondence and reports concerning the YWCA of Japan. YWCA of Japan secretaries and American YWCA secretaries in Japan write narrative accounts of their journeys often containing vivid descriptions of their surroundings and the nature of their work. Reports assess the work being done for women and girls commenting on areas needing improvement or more support. In addition, the letters and reports contain accounts of interpersonal conflicts or challenges that may arise when cooperating with other organizations or even other secretaries. The YWCA of the U.S.A. sends secretaries to Japan to advice on YWCA activities, train leaders and report back to the National Board and local associations concerning the work being carried out in Japan. Reports are arranged alphabetically by reporter's last name covering the letters J through K.
