Scope and Contents

Documents concerning YWCA activities in the Dutch East Indies, Newfoundland, New Zealand and Norway. The YWCA of the U.S.A. supports activities in the Dutch East Indies and Newfoundland with financial aid in addition to sending secretaries to serve as leaders, trainers and advisors. Cooperation with Norway and New Zealand includes arranging visits for secretaries, sharing resources and exchanging progress updates on YWCA activity. In New Zealand, the YWCA activities include reconstruction and relief efforts following World War II and planning jubilee activities in addition to training and travel arrangements for YWCA of New Zealand members or staff.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
