Scope and Contents
Documents concerning the YWCA of Uruguay and the advancement and development of the women of Uruguay. Beginning around 1920 with visits from foreign YWCA secretaries, the YWCA of Uruguay provides a space for women and girls to gather and offers housing, dining facilities, recreation opportunities, classes, camps and more. Reports and correspondence assess the current YWCA work in Uruguay, make recommendations for the future, and discuss matters concerning the staffing, organization and financing of the YWCA of Uruguay. Documents include a history of YWCA work in Uruguay, annual, interim and visitation reports, constitutions and documents concerning leadership.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
