Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the international conferences of the World Young Women's Christian Associations in Washington D.C., St. Wolfgang, Austria and Champery, Switzerland in addition to materials from the 1946 leadership conference in Schloss Hunigen, Switzerland. Delegates to the World YWCA Conferences meet to united under a common purpose and aim, discuss and vote on matters the effect the international organization and discuss the future of the YWCA international movement. Discussions concern the relationship of the church to national associations, international conditions affecting women, the relationship between the many parts of the YWCA to each other and cooperation with other organizations. The Leadership conference meets to discuss the leadership needs and training of the World YWCA and national associations.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
