Health education, 1890-1950
Scope and Contents
Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. health education committee, conferences, handbooks and history. Committee documents include a draft of the proposed YWCA health statement, health program emphases, and committee progress reports. Conference materials addresses health programs, recommend physical, social, and recreational health activities, and report on committee business. Sections five and three of a 1949 health education handbook are present. Section five addresses construction and upkeep of pools, gyms, and locker room facilities and includes recommended equipment, layouts, and rules. Section three addresses fees for the health programs at the YWCA, why they are necessary, how to implement them, and what should be charged. Health education historical materials provide an overview of health education program from the beginnings of the YWCA through 1950 through clippings, correspondence, and pamphlets.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
