International institutes, 1924-1938
Scope and Contents
Newsletters, quarterly bulletins, and technical bulletins concerning international institutes, YWCA of the U.S.A. associations for immigrants to the United States. Bulletins address immigration law and policy, announce lecture series and events, provide case studies regarding living conditions around the world, announce personnel matters, and relay other information important to the international institutes. In addition, bulletins discuss issues of race, prejudices, social standing, and YWCA efforts to address such issues. Technical bulletins describe specific efforts, activities, and methods for serving social, welfare, mental, language, cultural, and other needs of immigrant women. Many bulletins include demographic information of immigrant populations. Included is a pamphlet listing shops selling international goods in New York.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
