Scope and Contents

Regional industrial council minutes, reports, and other materials arranged by region for the central, east Central, eastern, north east, west central, southern, and southwestern regions. Materials may report on council business, discuss recruitment and retention methods, provide member and club data and demographics, evaluate programs and activities, summarize resolutions passed, and provide committee and council member information. Materials may also discuss efforts and methods used to address problems faced by industrial and household workers. Such topics may include equal pay for women, continuing opportunities for industrial work after World War II, social conditions, workers health, minimum wage, the role of religion and the arts in industrial work with girls, discussions of governments, worker education, civil liberties, discrimination, leadership skills and training, and more.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
