Industrial, circa 1910-1946
Scope and Contents
Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. Industrial Department programs covering recreation, relationships with employer, religious education and reports. Recreation materials address the need for and purpose of recreation activities for all women and in particular, industrial girls. Instructions are provided for various dances, games, and other activities. Materials in the Relationship with employer subject file document efforts of YWCA secretaries to form relationships with and work with employers. Correspondence and reports summarize interviews and meetings with supervisors, analyze the success of the program, make recommendations for furthering such relationships, and discuss the reason for the work. The following subject file, religious education, concerns the role of religion and Christianity in industrial work. Materials include reports on religious education of industrial girls, discussion of how Christianity can address industrial problems, discussion guides and reading lists, and instruction on how to incorporate religion into industrial work. Finally, annual and biennial, field and visitation, and miscellaneous reports summarize, analyze and report on programs. Annual and Biennial reports summarize industrial work, program, and methods for the previous period and provide an overview of conditions, problems, and strategies used to address the condition of the working girl. Field work and visitation reports concern secretaries' visits to regions and local associations and report on specific conditions and clubs.
