Scope and Contents

Professional standards reports for the YWCA of the U.S.A., including study of the YWCA of the U.S.A. democratic procedure personnel policy and standard of conduct are developed to maintain fair labor practices across the organization. The bulk of the documents are comprised of the report of the "Study of standards of work of association employees other than professionals." This study arose from the work of the larger standards study and examines the work of the non-professional employee in the YWCA of the U.S.A. and the considerations for determining a living wage with the aim of developing policy for using skill and experience to determine when an employee receives higher than minimum wage.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
