Scope and Contents

Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. student associations, activities, program and cooperation with other organizations. Documents include lists and registration cards of affiliated student associations, National Student YWCA seventy-fifth anniversary celebration programs and planning materials, basic standards of affiliation for student associations, committee reports, lists of associations classified by college type and documents concerning cooperation with outside organizations. As part of the world student Christian movement, student associations have a strong international focus in addition to local activities and cooperation. The Commission of Student and World Christian Community, a group of representatives from several student Christian groups to study the relationship of students to the church, international issues affecting students and how student groups are participating in the world Christian movement. In addition, world Christian fellowship and cooperation is encouraged and facilitated through the Council of Christian Associations Christian World Education programs. Pamphlets and bulletins explain the purpose and aims of the program as well as providing updates on international needs and discussing the role of Christians in the changing world. Looking at national movements, the Commission on Christian Work assesses the role of Christianity on college campuses and minutes and reports assess student Christian work by region. Finally, the Chinese Student Christian Association minutes, correspondence and reports concern the work of Christian Chinese students in the United States.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
