Scope and Contents
Documents concerning National Intercollegiate Christian Council (NICC) summer and spring projects, the relationship between student associations of the YWCA and YMCA and additional documents concerning the NICC. Summer service projects organized by the NICC are intended to give students an opportunity to learn about social, economic and political problems. Additionally, some summer projects offer opportunities for volunteer service. Students participating in the College Summer Service Group are placed in a settlement or social agency and engage in discussions reflecting on the conditions and problems they encounter. The Delta Cooperative Farm Project involves students working on the Delta Cooperative Farm in Mississippi. Reports and correspondence concern the challenge to African American participants in the project. At the LIfe of Jesus Seminar student study the life of Jesus and how to apply the teaching to the work in the student movements. To gain experience in how the United States Government work and the political process the Meet Your Government program gives attendees the opportunities to visit branches of the government and observe government sessions. Other projects include the United Nations Seminar, European Work-Study Seminar and the West Virginia Student Service Project. At the West Virginia Student Service Project student experience life in the Morgantown coal mine. Other documents include outlines and notes on the study of the YWCA-YMCA relationship, reports of resolutions of the NICC and a pamphlet on the organization, structure and history of the NICC.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
