Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the student work of the National YMCA. In response to the changing climate on college campuses following World War II and a reorganization of the YMCA, the Campbell Commission and Commission on the Message and Mission of the Student YMCA study the purpose and aims of the student YMCA and its future. Reports and minutes of the commission's concern the beginnings of the commissions and the need for study, the process and approach to study and the results of the commission's work. Documents concerning the membership basis of the student YMCA address the evangelical or personal statement that a student must make prior to membership. Reports, correspondence and notes discuss the needs and implications of making changes to the membership basis in addition to summarizing positions regarding the proposed membership basis. Proceedings of the National Assembly of Student Secretaries are detailed reports of the periodic meetings of the leaders of student YMCA associations. The assemblies are not legislative bodies but rather a chance for student secretaries to hear commission reports, discuss the problems brought to light by the commissions and to have the opportunity to hear special speakers.
