Scope and Contents

War Production Workers Conference reports, and documents concerning conference planning, program and evaluation. The War Production Workers Conferences, originated by the USO division of the National Board of the YWCA of the U.S.A., are regional conferences for YWCA and USO staff working in war production areas to unite those workers under a common vision and purpose, increasing knowledge of war production needs, providing training on methods for working with war production workers and bring awareness to resources available to the staff. The documents are divided into six sections. Section one contains conference programs, reports and notes, section two is correspondence, section three contains staff meeting documents, section four is a conference report, section five is miscellaneous materials and section six is conference notes and proceedings.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
