Scope and Contents
Documents concerning the YWCA of the U.S.A. program of activities and fundraising for the 1955 centennial anniversary of the beginning of the YWCA movement worldwide. The Centennial Observance and Celebration is a fundraiser and celebration of Young Women's Christian associations with the aims of increasing membership, community engagement and support. Publications, arranged alphabetically by title, include program guidebooks, fundraising guidebooks, fundraising pamphlets, pamphlets promoting the YWCA of the U.S.A. and published articles. Photographs and a service program document the national centennial service held at the Radio City Music Hall. Following this are documents concerning a centennial photo contest held To engage members in the celebrations. Correspondence concerns the selection of winners, contest procedures and prizes. Student and Y-Teen involvement is documented in meeting minutes, program guidebooks, program plans and correspondence. Additional materials include correspondence to the National Board and participating members, fliers and a compilation of frequently asked questions and answers.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
