Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the planning, preparations and proceedings of the 1960 YWCA of the U.S.A. central region conference. Regional conferences are an opportunity for delegates from local associations to gather together and discuss matters of national, regional and international importance in between national conventions. Conferences include addresses from leaders of the YWCA of the U.S.A. as well as prominent members of the community and visitors. Conference topics include inclusivity across race, economics and class, YWCA of the U.S.A. health examination policy, the young adult program and the role of the YWCA of the U.S.A. Documents include conference reports and statistics, conference planning documents, summaries of addresses and discussion sessions, publicity and clippings, publicity planning materials and conference financial reports. Documents are arranged by topic as indicated in the index at the beginning of the microdex.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
