Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the planning, preparations and proceedings of the 1960 YWCA of the U.S.A. southwestern and western regional conferences. Regional conferences are an opportunity for delegates from local associations to gather together and discuss matters of national, regional and international importance in between national conventions. Conferences include addresses from leaders of the YWCA of the U.S.A. as well as prominent members of the community and visitors. Conference topics include role of the YWCA of the U.S.A. as a Christian Movement, the role of the YWCA of the U.S.A. in the women's movement, refugees and international cooperation, community representation and the role of the local association in their community. Discussion and workgroups facilitate discussion of key topics among smaller groups of attendees allowing for individual input. Documents include conference reports and statistics, conference planning documents, summaries of addresses and discussion sessions, bulletins and programs. Documents are arranged by topic as indicated in the index at the beginning of the microdex.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
