Scope and Contents

Documents concerning young women's Christian associations in Honduras, Ceylon, Taipei, China and Czechoslovakia. Correspondence concerning the development of an association in Honduras concern challenges and progress. Secretaries' reports from the YWCA of Ceylon, previously part of the YWCA of India, Burma and Ceylon, describe the status and needs of the women in Ceylon, the work of the YWCA of Ceylon and note important developments. Additional documents include a pamphlet providing historical and cultural background for visitors to Ceylon, executive committee reports and newsletters. Reports and secretary correspondence from Taipei describe the political, social and religious context in which the YWCA of Taipei works. These documents also report on association needs, program and programs. Correspondence with the YWCA of China include letters concerning the relationship between the YWCA of China and the World YWCA indicating that there has been some strain in the relationship especially concerning the associations in Hong Kong and Taipei. Additional correspondence from China concerns the graves of American citizens in British cemeteries in China. Correspondence and notes concerning the YWCA of Czechoslovakia seek to find answers about the sudden closure of the YWCA there and the safety and status of its former members and leaders.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
