Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the YWCA of the U.S.A.'s relationship to Indonesia, Iran, Italy and Jordan. The YWCA of the U.S.A. as part of its commitment to the global development of women supports the development of associations internationally through finance, resource exchanges and sending staff abroad. Correspondence from Indonesia requests materials from the YWCA of the U.S.A. to share with the Ministry of Education and Cultures Department on Women's Affairs. Correspondence concerning Iran responds to requests for the development of an association. The YWCA of the U.S.A.'s relationship with the YWCA of Italy begins after World War II with reconstruction efforts. A short report outlines this relationship and the services provided. Correspondence concerning the YWCA of Jordan includes requests for support of their building project. These letters include reports of the work of the YWCA in Jordan and the importance of securing a building for the association. Additionally documents include pamphlets describing the YWCA of Jordan's work with refugees and activities in the refugee camps,

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
