Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the YWCA of the U.S.A. work in Korea with the YWCA of Korea. The Foreign Division of the YWCA of the U.S.A. supports international associations through financial contributions, resource sharing, supplying staff and arranging leadership training opportunities. Correspondence with secretaries working with the YWCA of Korea concern administrative matters such as travel and finances, association needs, social, political and economic conditions and association activities. Reports and correspondence regarding the Tonnage Rural Training Center describe the goals of the work and report on the training center program. In addition to supporting the YWCA of Korea's development in Korea, the Foreign Division sponsors trainees from Korea in their education and training in the United States. Travel needs, finances, schedules and training content are arranged in correspondence. Other documents include annual reports of the YWCA of Korea, local association directories and statistics, a historical summary of the YWCA of Korea, correspondence concerning building campaigns and reports on the work of the YWCA of Korea.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
