Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the National Board of the YWCA of the U.S.A. Headquarters Services Committee and the health education, services and policies of the YWCA of the U.S.A. The Headquarters Services Committee is responsible for the maintenance, use and hospitality of the headquarters buildings of the National Board. Documents include their committee charter, reports, correspondence and letters of agreement with building tenants. Health and recreation is an important part of the overall program of the YWCA of the U.S.A. and considered essential to the development of women. The health education program includes physical education and standards. Pamphlets, reports and official statements document the health education and physical education programs. Additional documents include an overview of the mental health program of the YWCA of the U.S.A., health examination policy, a program overview and notes on the National Advisory Committee on Local Health Units.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
