Scope and Contents

Documents concerning religious organizations outside of the YWCA of the U.S.A. The National Council of the Churches is a national movement of religious organizations and churches and the YWCA of the U.S.A., as a Christian women's movement, sometimes works with them as members and as a cooperating organization and remains in touch with the council's actions and reports. Documents include committee, division and department reports, correspondence and written statements of their relationship with the YWCA of the U.S.A., correspondence and written statements concerning their relationship to the National Student YWCA and National Student YMCA, council emphases, articles and meeting minutes. Additional documents concerning outside religious organizations include a letter to the American Friends Service Committee concerning a Doris Duke Foundation request, a letter and statement concerning the YWCA of the U.S.A.'s relationship to the Protestant Church and a memorandum concerning the YWCA of the U.S.A.'s relationship to the Young Life organization.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
