Scope and Contents

Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. public affairs program committee and civil rights issues. The YWCA of the U.S.A. Public Affairs Committee is responsible for developing the public affairs program informed by national and local issues and supporting the implementation of the program on the national and local level. Public affairs programs address social, economic and political issues by recommending actions, issuing statements, writing to members of the government and circulating information concerning public affairs issues. In the fifties much of the program focuses on issues of civil rights and international relations. Statements and reports provide background information and context for the issue being addressed and recommend specific action or position concerning legislation. Documents concerning civil rights issues include letters to the president and other government officials in support of civil rights legislation.
