Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the use, sale, maintenance and management of the Asilomar conference grounds, a YWCA of the U.S.A. conference and camp facility. The YWCA of the U.S.A. looks to sell the property in the early fifties and meets challenges from the Pacific Grove community as well as members of the YWCA of the U.S.A. with fond memories of the facility. Eventually the property is sold to the state of California with an agreement that the facility be maintained as a conference ground and managed by an operating corporation. Later correspondence and clippings concern the operating corporation's proposed changes to structure. Documents include correspondence concerning the terms of the sale of the property, clippings and correspondence concerning the operating corporation of the conference grounds and its relationship to the state of California, pamphlets advertising the property and its history, recommendations concerning the management of the facilities and data concerning conference ground use. Additional correspondence includes consultations with attorneys concerning racial restrictions in the deed of the property.
