Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the history of the National Student Councils of the YMCA and YWCA and its publication "The Intercollegian." The National Student Councils of the YMCA and YWCA, or NSCY, meet annually between quadrennial assemblies to discuss the direction of the student Christian movement and make policy and practice decisions. Prior to a name change in 1951 the NSCY was organized under the National Intercollegiate Christian Council (NICC). Both organizations unite the work of the National Student YMCA and National Student YWCA and provide an official structure and process for cooperative work. Historical summaries and a timeline of annual NSCY emphases explain the origins of the combined movement and their relationship to the YWCA of the U.S.A. and the YMCA of the USA. "The Intercollegian" is the national magazine of the NSCY giving voice to the movement and providing a channel of communication to associations and individual members. Minutes, correspondence and notes concern the future direction of the magazine, its purpose and the role of the board of management.
