Scope and Contents

Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. student programs, the structure and organization of the student unit and National Student Councils of the YMCA and YWCA summer projects. The National Student Councils of the YMCA and YWCA (NSCY) is the joint governing body of the two student movements. Summer projects combine work experience, recreation and discussions to provide the participants with a meaningful summer experience. Brochures and project descriptions provide an overview of the summer project program and NSCY newsletters share important news and highlights concerning the student Christian Associations. The National Student YWCA while separate from the National Student YMCA and other Christian student groups often has collaborative or cooperative relationships with these student bodies. The relationships between the National Student YWCA, local associations, the World YWCA and other organizations is outlined in organizational structure reports. Additional documents concerning the student work of the YWCA of the U.S.A. include National Student YWCA officer meeting minutes, program plans and national training laboratory correspondence and reports. Also included is the report of the National Commission on Consultations About Student Christian Work, an overview of the student Christian work at the time of writing with recommendations for future work. The commission is a collaborative group consisting of representatives from student Christian organizations.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
