YWCA, 1952-1960
Scope and Contents
Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. affiliation and disaffiliation, strategies for responding to attacks on the organization, branches and centers, and buildings. Procedures for affiliation, disaffiliation and change of name are outlined in a handbook along with example forms. Also included are blank certificates and lists of associations. A cross reference card in the microfilm notes that more information on affiliation can be found in the National Board subject file under "committee on membership in the national association." The YWCA of the U.S.A. and its member associations often come under criticism for their views, policies and ideas. Guidelines for reacting to attacks and reporting to the national organization are present in an excerpt from "A Manual of Procedures" from the National Board of the YWCA of the U.S.A. In addition, several letters alert local associations to current criticisms that may gain attention. Following this, a statement and letter concerning the use of branches and centers, especially "racial branches," raises questions concerning their use and place in the YWCA of the U.S.A.'s push towards inclusivity. Lists of association branches compile the names and locations of all existing branches. Finally, building and renovation project policies and guidelines are designed to help local associations through the building and renovation process including budgeting, fund raising, building use and important questions to consider. Also included are lists of ongoing building and renovation projects.
