Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the planning, preparations and sessions of the 1969 YWCA of the U.S.A. regional conferences. Regional conferences are an opportunity for delegates from local associations to gather together and discuss matters of national, regional and international importance between national conventions. Conferences include addresses from leaders of the YWCA of the U.S.A. as well as prominent members of the community and visitors covering topics such as the role of the YWCA of the U.S.A. in social change and social justice and the role of the local association in meeting the needs of its community. Discussion and workgroups facilitate discussion of key topics among smaller groups of attendees allowing for individual input. Documents include pre-conference bulletins and memos, programs and schedules and post-conference notes and reports. Documents from the Southern and Western conferences include the "Proposal to Ensure the Inclusion of Young Women in the Young Women's Christian Association." This document lists a set of recommendations, endorsed by a group of young women and supported in the conferences, that outline ways in which the National Board of the YWCA of the U.S.A. can demonstrate its commitment to young women and give them more active input in the organization. In addition to this the Western conference materials include a similar document concerning the role of the African American member in the national organization.
