Scope and Contents
Correspondence and reports concerning programs of young women's Christian associations in Africa. The YWCA of the U.S.A. as part of the world's movement of YWCA's and the international organization, World YWCA, participates in this network of associations by offering support to associations, maintaining an awareness of YWCA work and needs in other countries and sending representatives abroad to aid in development. Correspondence and reports from visiting secretaries include program updates and description of any relationship between the association and the YWCA of the U.S.A. Annual reports and conference reports from associations provide program overviews and insight into the life of the YWCA some African nations. Additional correspondence concern requests for financial support. The documents are arranged alphabetically by nation beginning with Botswana and ending with Nigeria.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
