Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the programs and development of young women's Christian associations in Mexico and the Philippines. The YWCA of the U.S.A. as part of the world's movement of YWCA's and the international organization, World YWCA, participates in this network of associations by offering support to associations, maintaining an awareness of YWCA work and needs in other countries and sending representatives abroad to aid in development. Correspondence and visitation reports submitted to the International Division of the YWCA of the U.S.A. include program updates, assessments and descriptions of the context in which the associations are developing. Additional documents include conference proceedings, newsletters and articles highlighting the work of the associations.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
