Student: Southern region, 1961-1967
Scope and Contents
Documents concerning "human relations" projects and programs of the Southern region of the National Student YWCA. Human relations in these documents equates to race relations and is intended to address the civil unrest and racism faced by the South. The National Student YWCA human relations project reports to the Jacob R. Schiff Charitable Trust summarize and assess the project that funds staff members supporting race relations programs and serving as advisors. Additional materials include campus visitation reports, meeting minutes and a summary report of human relations in the South.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
