Scope and Contents

Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. associations and activities in California. Correspondence and reports from Oxnard and Pacific Grove concern the possibilities of organizing new associations. Assessments are made as to the needs of the women and girls of the area, the possibility of leadership and of existing club activities. Oakland's international institute is a YWCA of the U.S.A. association serving Oakland's immigrant women and their families. Pamphlets, correspondence and reports describe its services and relationship to the YWCA of the U.S.A. Other documents include a residence survey for the Oakland LInden branch, a report of a survey of youth services in Orange, personnel lists and a report of the cooperation between the YMCA and YWCA in Orange.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
