California, circa 1917-1950
Scope and Contents
Reports, correspondence and administrative records concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. associations in San Pedro, Santa Ana and Santa Barbara, California. Correspondence and reports from San Pedro characterize the community as having a large immigrant and industrial population and describe the association's efforts to meet the needs of those groups. In Santa Ana the association originates with girl reserve clubs and a desire for organized clubs for women and girls independent of the services offered by the YMCA. Correspondence and reports from Santa Barbara concern their efforts and requests to organize official YWCA work. Documents include applications for affiliation, constitutions and governing documents, visitation reports, reports of studies of San Pedro and lists of staff and volunteers.
