Scope and Contents

Visitation reports, correspondence and programs from the Denver YWCA and documents concerning additional Young Women's Christian Associations and branches in Denver, Colorado. The Phyllis Wheatley Branch of the Denver YWCA is a part of the Denver YWCA serving the African American women and girls there. Constitutions, bylaws, visitation reports and correspondence concern the structure and organization of the branch, its relationship to the Denver YWCA and assessments of its program and activities. When the American Committee and the International Board combined to form the unified National Board of the YWCA of the U.S.A., an agreement was made that only one Young Women's Christian Association exist in each city. Correspondence, constitutions, bylaws and reports concerning the Denver YWCA Rest and Recreation Rooms and the Scandinavian YWCA of Denver concern the conflicts over having overlapping interests, their appeals to become association with the national organization and their history of organization in Denver.
