Scope and Contents

Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. associations and activities in Indiana. Reports and correspondence concerning the entire state include visitation reports summarizing and assessing YWCA association leadership and services, discussion of relationships with the YMCA, a study of rural communities in Indiana and corporation acts for the state of Indiana. Administrative records, correspondence and reports for YWCA of the U.S.A. associations in Anderson and Elkhart include constitutions and bylaws, association historical summaries and fact sheets, visitation reports, the YWCA of Anderson, Indiana's residence survey and lists of professional and volunteer leadership. Efforts to develop YWCA associations in Alexandria, Angola, Bloomington and Crawfordsville are documented in correspondence and reports and include assessments of the existing efforts and leadership, descriptions of community needs and summaries of existing clubs and services for women.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
