Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the development of YWCA associations in Massachusetts and the affiliation, history, services, program, buildings and leadership of the associations in Holyoke and Haverhill. Prior to developing new associations, the YWCA of the U.S.A. studies the current services for women in an area, the community interest, community need and potential leadership. These factors are considered in visitation reports and correspondence with the community leaders and organizers. Also included is a report of YMCA efforts to expand their program and services for the industrial sector. Documents concerning the associations in Holyoke and Haverhill include lists of professional and volunteer leadership, anniversary pamphlets, association histories, governing documents and correspondence. Visitation reports of the YWCA of Boston describe and assess the association's program, leadership, activities, facilities and services.
