Documents concerning the YWCA of Brooklyn, New York's branches. Branches often are created for African American clubs and international institutes in the early YWCA of the U.S.A. and in large metropolitan associations, such as the YWCA of Brooklyn, branches may also serve different neighborhoods or constituent groups. Administrative records, correspondence and reports throughout indicate a desire to centralize administration of the branches that are self governing and move towards a system of centers. Several of the branches do make the transition after discuss of the impact on programming and staff. The Ashland Place branch, the African American branch makes this transition to center but is ultimately closed in 1950. The branch's closure is due in part to a commitment to integrated programming. The Bush Terminal and Eastern District branches both focus on work with industrial and business and professional women. Bush Terminal is discontinued shortly after World War I and Eastern District in 1937. Additional branches and centers include the international institute, Central Branch, New Utrecht Branch and Greenpoint Branch. Visitation reports and correspondence include summaries of branch programs, assess leadership and describe challenges that the branches face. Additional materials include governing documents, pamphlets and leadership rosters.
