Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the administration, programs and management of the YWCA of Fargo, North Dakota, a history of the YWCA of the U.S.A. in North Dakota and documents concerning the development of an association in Bismarck. The administrative history of the YWCA of Fargo can be tracked through the iterations of constitutions and bylaws in addition to association fact sheets and historical summaries. Visitation reports describe and assess the association's program, leadership, activities, facilities and services. Other documents include lists of professional and volunteer leadership, completed finance and residence surveys and advisory correspondence with regional and national leadership. Advisory correspondence with Bismarck include discussion of the necessary steps for affiliation, assessments of current work and interest and descriptions of general intention. Preceding the documents for Bismarck and Fargo is a narrative history of the YWCA in the state of North Dakota.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
