Pennsylvania, circa 1906-1950
Scope and Contents
Documents concerning the history, program and administration of the YWCA of Germantown, Pennsylvania and its branches. The administrative history of the association can be tracked through the iterations of constitutions and bylaws in addition to association fact sheets. Visitation reports describe and assess the association's program, leadership, activities, facilities and services. Other documents include lists of professional and volunteer leadership, industrial program reports, letters concerning relationships with the YMCA and advisory correspondence with regional and national leadership. The branches of the association serve geographic or demographic groups. The Collins Branch and the "Negro" Branch both serve African American women and girls. Letters and reports indicate that there is association wide discussion of the role of the branch and a desire from some to completely integrate the program of the association. The Falls OF Schuylkill Branch is an industrial program center serving women and girls employed in industry. The purpose and functions of the branches are established in their bylaws and administrative records and correspondence and reports concern issues of programs, leadership and policy.
