Scope and Contents
Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. associations in Norristown and Oil City, Pennsylvania and developing association work in Oxford. The administrative history of the associations can be tracked through the iterations of constitutions and bylaws in addition to association fact sheets and historical notes. Visitation reports describe and assess the association's program, leadership, activities, facilities and services. Other documents include lists of professional and volunteer leadership, correspondence concerning relationships with the YMCA in Oil City, completed residence and finance surveys, correspondence concerning the development of an African American branch in Norristown, and advisory correspondence with regional and national leadership. Visitation reports and advisory correspondence with organizers in Oxford, Pennsylvania include assessments of ongoing work and advice on the next steps required for organization.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.
However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
