West Virginia, circa 1912-1950
Scope and Contents
Documents concerning the work of the YWCA of the U.S.A. in West Virginia, the history, program and administration of associations in Bluefield and Charleston, and a report concerning the community of Buckhannon. Documents concerning statewide YWCA work include state visitation reports, conferences and the development of associations throughout the states. For the associations in Bluefield and Charleston, administrative and organizational histories can be traced through their constitutions and bylaws in addition to fact sheets and historical notes. Visitation reports from field secretaries assess program, membership and the overall performance of the associations. Additional documents include correspondence and reports concerning racism in Charleston, lists of staff and volunteer leaders, building and finance records, and advisory correspondence with regional and national leadership.
