Scope and Contents

Administrative records, reports and correspondence concerning the history, program and certification of YWCA of the U.S.A. associations in Mobile and Montgomery, Alabama as well as documents concerning registered YWCA of the U.S.A. clubs in Monroeville, Pell City, and Selma. Administrative records for the Mobile and Montgomery associations include basic standards reports, national certification documents, constitutions, and bylaws. Visitation reports for the associations are more narrative in nature and include program descriptions, reports of challenges and successes, and discussion of personnel and management needs. Annual reports for the Monroeville and Selma associations are standard forms reporting on the status of the clus. Correspondence with Pell City concern the development of a Y-Teen club. Documents are arranged alphabetically by city.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
