Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the administration, program, and development of YWCA of the U.S.A. associations in California followed by documents concerning Alameda County, Bakersfield, Banning, and the Bay Area in particular. Documents concerning YWCA work in all of California are comprised mostly of conference and meeting reports. Next, an Alameda County study, sponsored jointly by the Alameda County United Fund and Federation of Community Services,examines the possibility of a central budgeting and planning program. Documents concerning the YWCA of Bakersfield, California include basic standards reports, constitutions and bylaws, certification records, visitation reports and general correspondence. These documents are followed by visitation reports for Banning and meeting minutes for the YWCA Bay Area Council.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
