Scope and Contents

Documents concerning the administration, program and development of YWCA of the U.S.A. associations in the Imperial Valley, La Verne, and Long Beach, California in addition a report on inland area development and an inquiry into a new association in Lancaster, California. Documents concerning the administration and history of the established associations vary by location but may include basic standards reports, certification materials, constitutions, bylaws and historical overviews. Their visitation reports are more narrative in nature and include program descriptions, reports of challenges and successes, and discussion of personnel and management needs. The notes on the inland area meeting reports on discussions with associations in San Bernardino, Redlands, and Riverside concerning reaching beyond their own city. Materials are arranged alphabetically by city or area.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
